Bhagavad-Gita: The Song
of Your Life
Sept 3 - 4, 2008 |
Swami Jyotir
Vakyananda (Michael Perry) and Swami Abhipadananda (Heidi Lindeman)
In all great scripture there
is only one character: "Truth" in its many forms. In this workshop
Michael and Heidi talk about the "scripture" of the Gita as "allegory".
In very simple terms they explain: the characters, how they represent
the different parts of ourselves, and how we can use the insight we gain
from the allegory of the Gita to help us achieve our dreams. The Gita
teaches that no effort towards a dream is ever wasted and Heidi and
Michael share an inspiring message as they remind us, "As above, so
below. What was born in the heavens is fulfilled on the earth. Know this
and rejoice!" |

Jesus'
teachings?
Oct 30, Nov, 6,

Hanny Freiwat
When we asked Hanny
to do a Fall series for Tea and Cookie on the Nativity Story -
his response was, "the Nativity story was added almost 100 years
after Jesus' death. It doesn't have much to do with his
teachings..." What!! We were speechless! And we wanted to know
more! The series would now cover the actual sequence of events:
the teachings of Jesus as they appear in the New Testament from
the Cross, to the Resurrection, and through Acts (the Early
Church) and then, and only then, would it reveal the answer to
the question: Where did this "Jesus" of the Nativity Story come
from? |

The Katha Upanishad: a Wisdom
Tale - Oct. 10, 2009
Outwardly, a dialogue between a young boy and the Lord of death,
the Katha demonstrates the essential role of patience,
steadfastness and willingness to let go of the past in order to
find the answers to your most pressing questions.
You
must question every truth, every dogma and every answer given to
you by outward sources and determine, for yourself, how and if
it fits into your journey.
Your dream - the overriding purpose for you in this lifetime -
is a fire that burns. But you must feed that fire by kindling it
with vigilance and the certain knowledge that no effort towards
your dream is ever wasted.
The
Katha Upanishad points to these essential lessons: be fearless,
be forgiving, cultivate skillful means, do not waiver when your
questions are pressing.
