Tea and Cookie Movie Nights

See below as to how we do our Movie Nights.  Here is a list of recommendations....

Invictus

Invite a small group of friends over and enjoy conversation stimulated by this incredible story of forgiveness.

Welcome to Collinwood

Five guys. One safe. No brains.. Enjoyable caper with a great cast: William H Macy, George Clooney, Patricia Clarkson.

Roxanne

A modern remake of Cyrano De Bergerac where a man's own self-doubt prevents him from expressing his love.

Doubt

Set in 1964, Doubt centers on a nun who confronts a priest after suspecting him of abusing a black student.

UP

A reflection on life's unfinished business, our tendency to put even the biggest dreams on the shelf, and perhaps finding an unexpected meaning in taking on an adventure.

The Matrix Trilogy

What is or is not the real world?  "The One" is who will lead the humans to reclaim the Earth.

Whale Rider

A substantial film of unexpected emotional force where a leap of faith takes us along for that memorable ride.

Groundhog Day

When we get beyond denial and resentment over the conditions of life and death, and accept our situation we can become authentic and compassionate.

"First Christians" documentary

Explore the life of Jesus and the movement he started, challenging familiar assumptions and conventional notions about the origins of Christianity. The film traces Jesus' life, focusing on the events that occurred after he died and on his first followers who created a major movement that transformed the Roman Empire in the space of only three hundred years.

What the Bleep do we know?

The protagonist finds herself in a fantastic experience when her daily, uninspired life literally begins to unravel, revealing the uncertain world of the quantum field hidden behind what we consider to be our normal, waking reality.

A Man Called Horse

In this story a man symbolically dies and is re-born from a proper British gentleman to a noble Native American.
Key questions to hold: Who would I be without my context? and What would I be re-born as?

Robin and Marian

Starring Sean Connery with special guest appearance by Richard Harris. The true story of Robin Hood, in my opinion the best telling of Robin Hood ever and it truly defines what is necessary to become legendary.
Key questions to hold: "Maybe this is just the way things really are." If things are not this way, how are they?

Camelot

This is the story of the death and re-birth of nobility.
Key questions to hold:
What deeply held core beliefs did I compromise to become who I am now and what form of youthful idealism could help it be reborn?

Akira Kirosawa's Seven Samurai &

The Magnificent Seven

Questions to hold while watching this movie:

1. What is worth staking everything over?

2. What is my personal integrity code?

3. Who am I in the movie? How do I face combat and death?

4. Who was I 12 years ago? 28 years ago? 2 years ago?

Tea and Cookie Movie Nights

Once every month or three we gather at someone's home, share a potluck, watch a movie together then discuss it over decaf, tea and dessert.  It's proven to be an enjoyable evening for everyone.

It's simple to do:

  • Email a friend or three or ten

  • Plan a potluck (we often go for the luck of the pot, and have ended up with more dessert than meal - which was not as much of a problem as no dessert)

  • Decide on the timing that works best for your crowd.  Ours tends to be dozing off if we go much past 9:30 or 10, so we start early.

  • Plan on an hour or so to eat and clean up

  • 2+ hours for the movie
Another hour of so for dessert, discussion, bunny trails and general commentary.

  • Before leaving, set the next movie and the date

  • Then it's time for hugs and goodbye!

We hope you enjoy your Movie Nights as much as we have ours.
